Life in the Years is a joint initiative of Musicians for a Cause and the Moore Center |

It's been said that Alzheimer's is a disease that mainly affects the elderly. For every elderly person afflicted with Alzheimer's there are many children whose lives are forever changed too. This video, called "Grandpa, Do You Know Who I Am?", is one part of an HBO documentary series on Alzheimer's disease. It's narrated by Maria Shriver and helps us all better understand and cope with how Alzheimer's affects children. |

Reach Across the Ages is about re-connecting our youth with our elders by creating opportunities for intergenerational activities and experiential learning. Raising awareness of the value our elders have in our society is a key component of the Life in the years initiative. In the old days elders passed on family traditions, values, tales and history through the stories they told. They shared their wisdom through these discussions and gained respect in the process. They were revered. Our culture has changed to a point where our elders are not as often sought out for their wisdom and we seldom ask them questions about their lives. We're losing touch with our past and the richness that comes through sharing stories. How many of us can truly say that we asked our grandparents - or even our parents - all the questions we wanted to? Today's youth will be making tomorrow's decisions about how our elderly are cared for. As tomorrow's policy-makers, business owners, land developers, scientists, and caregivers they'll be the ones to ultimately change the world our elderly live in, so it's important for them to have a strong sense of awareness and compassion and to be connected to the wisdom and traditions of previous generations. The Life is the Years music can play a key role in creating that awareness and compassion. Music is one of the most effective ways of reaching today's youth, so the songs are great tools to use in promoting discussion and helping them understand the value of our elders and the issues they face. Part of Reach Across the Ages is a collection of ideas that can be used to create programs that team youth groups with senior organizations to renew the connection between a community's youth and its elderly. Activities like Wii Love Seniors, Let's Talk and Every Picture Tells A Story are intended to foster discussion and inspire intergenerational exercises to educate our next generation about the value of our elders, helping to restore some traditional behaviors and values. They're great projects to use as a social service activity and can be valuable in teaching lessons about civic responsibility. Please help us re-shape the way our society views its elders!
