Where do the proceeds from the sale of Life in the Years CDs go? We want to disclose the details of the Life in the Years initiative to highlight the ways we're making an impact on changing the world our elderly live in. The first step in creating support for any cause is creating awareness. The Life in the Years initiative is a music-based awareness and fundraising campaign focused on creating support for the issues faced by the elderly, and Alzheimer's disease in particular, through songs that deliver touching messages about aging and how it affects lives. To maximize our ability to create awareness with music, all the songs, lyrics and inspiration notes are available on our website, in their entirety, for anyone to listen to and share for free. Our goal is to financially support the fight against Alzheimer's disease and begin to change the way our society views and values its elders. Although every fundraising campaign has expenses involved, we're proud to say that greater than 80% of the proceeds from every sale go toward creating awareness and supporting the fight against Alzheimer's disease. We sincerely want the Life in the Years initiative to make a difference, and creating awareness is the beginning to creating involvement and financial support to help to fight one of the most devasting diseases faced by our elderly today. We appreciate your support and invite you to help by sharing the music and learing more about the issues around aging, including Alzheimer's disease. |

In 2009 the Moore Center approached Musicians for a Cause about providing a compilation of songs that would create awareness and support for the elderly to bring visibility to its Moore Options for Seniors program. Musicians for a Cause began soliciting songs that represented various perspectives on aging from artists across the country. We also initiated an international song contest to over 350,000 artists and AARP of New Hampshire's sponsorship of the contest helped draw attention and participation. The songs and stories we received were incredibly touching and it wasn't long before we realized that we had created what people began calling the most comprehensive collection in the world of songs about aging. We also realized that the impact we could have extended far beyond our original goal and felt compelled to use this compilation to make the biggest difference we could. The Moore Center supports people with developmental disabilities and the elderly, and both are affected by Alzheimer's disease. It's estimated that greater than 25% of individuals with Down syndrome over age 35 show clinical signs and symptoms of Alzheimer's-type dementia and the percentages go up to 50% to 70% for those over age 60. Also, over 50% of the people supported by Moore Options for Seniors are dealing with Alzheimer's or some other form of dementia. Because of the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease among the Moore Center's clients we decided that organizations fighting Alzheimer's should be the main beneficiary of the proceeds from the project. Toward that end we launched Life in the Years, an initiative to bring awareness to the issues around aging, and to also support fighting Alzheimer's, one of the most devastating diseases affecting our elderly. We sincerely hope and believe that these songs will inspire people to do their little part to help change the world our elderly live in - even if it's just one person at a time. Music is such a powerful tool for creating awareness and support for social issues and we invite you to please share it with others to help us create more Life in the Years. Sincerely, |
